Dog Diary. Year ONE on Lichess!
[dog walk down memory lane]As you know, time flies like an arrow and... fruit flies like a banana. Anyroad, it's been a whole year since I appeared on Lichess, so let me gather a few noteworthy recollections here.
Friends
When it hasn't been your day, your week
Your month, or even your year...
First and foremost - I've met a lot of beautiful people here:
Re and Papa Cammie, Lee, Gem, Marco, the Spirit, Bishoy, Wolfie and Bubbles are only a few of them.
And surely I can't help mentioning @Jmilie... sorely missed and never forgotten.
May your journey lead you to the light.
Puzzles and Things
It was @Jmilie who motivated me to make posts and puzzles. And a bit later we created Atomic Puzzles for Beginners - a study where you will find some basic Atomic concepts & ideas followed by a bunch of easy puzzles.
It was great fun making puzzles and I quite like many of them but this particular one is probably me favourite -
See Hard - 1 (Opening).
I also wrote short reviews on 5 chess books [Non-Fiction] and created a chess/film game.
Most memorable games
1. This one against @Vamto from a Weekly Atomic Arena came down in history as 'Horsey goes right, horsey goes left':
There were a lot of wins there but from move 14 the only thing I saw was... well, that horsey goes right, horsey goes left (don't drink and play!).
2. I haven't played 960 all that much but this game goes to show how crazy blunderous it could be - beating an IM in 8 moves:
3. Finally I managed to beat @Wolfram_EP with black (and it only took me about a year). 'Oh no, my wolf' moment -

4. And lastly, but not leastly, - my grandiose loss to @AhSoka14, a 983 rated player at the time. 'Oh no, my dog' moment -

Goals for year TWO

For a short while I was floundering about in the Atomic top 50 and on October 18th reached my peak rating of 2186, so the first aim is
2200+ in Atomic
Then I'd like to become
2200+ Bullet and Blitz
2300+ Rapid
Tournament-wise my highest achievement was this hat-trick I completed in December winning Monthly, Weekly and Daily -

Realising that the Yearly is probably out of my paws' reach, I'd like to go for an
Atomic Shield
This year I've played three 960 matches against:
1 - the illustrious @ReChesster, who came all the way from Antarctica where he famously resides;
2 - the fast and versatile @Quasabianth;
3 - the ferocious (and fluffy) @Wolfram_EP
The scoreline is
4 - 7
4.5 - 7.5
1 - 7
That is why my next goal is to
Win an Atomic 960 match
And finally - let's dream big - I'd like to
Beat a GM
That's it, thank you everyone!
Best wishes,
Elio
