after ...e3 though there’s only one move white is ever playing which is fxe3 with an easy draw so it doesn’t really matter how few correct options they have.

If Black really needs to win they should try to play something semi-useful but non-concrete like ...Kc3 (Capablanca principle of do not hurry) and probe first trying to get ...e3 in in more optimal circumstances, eg Black king on e2 bishop on b7 and R on g8 then ...e3 would be completely winning (admittedly unlikely to be able to achieve this)

Also you say ...Re8 looks like an obvious start - I think you mean Rd8 as Rook is already on e8.
