As someone about your age and also a relative newcomer to chess, in my heart I was hoping you would succeed in proving the conventional wisdom wrong about adult improvers. But in my head I know we are just too old to learn like the kids do.
Congrats on reorienting your life relatively quickly and reaching a more healthy relationship with chess. I think others would be happier if they had your maturity, instead of clinging on to unrealistic goals for longer.
