Very happy to see this added to the suite of tools! For books that include annotated game collections, step one for me is always to play through the game this way before reading the annotations. I also use it for playing through model games for opening variations I play. ChessDojo also recommends collections of master games to review for each cohort. Solitaire chess/guess the move is a great way to review those games.
Great blog! I look forward to reviewing the guides you linked.

Interesting insights into your workflow.
Which opening book did you leverage for marking book moves?
Did you learn something new by creating this application?

Do let me know how the guides work for you, I wrote a year ago, but I still think they would set the ground for build chess web apps.

I used the Lichess names of openings to generate the book move, i.e. if there is a name for the openings then it would show as a book move. I tweaked the logic to take into account gaps in opening lines.

Yes, I refined the way I do multiple stockfish instances processing, it was a little tricky, but built a nice helper tool that I can reuse everywhere. Also, created two new annotations for Best and Book kbe, so that was always fun.

I've actually been looking/hoping someone would develop something like this. Being able to select a random game based on opening or opening family and/or a specific player playing on either or a specific side would be a nice addition though loading from PGN works well enough. Being . Some additional visual feedback on the moves would also be appreciated since currently it's a bit jarring when the piece just pops back to the original position when you don't follow the move order.
Overall I do enjoy the app after a quick test.
edit: One more thing. Sometimes the evals don't pop up(maybe it's calculating still because they might show up at some point) but having some feedback would be nice. Also being able to navigate back & forth to see your old guesses is also something that would be helpful.

Thanks for the feedback, I am glad you like the application.
I see what you mean by the feedback, I think maybe a small delay before reverting would be good, as it is pretty quick, I will play around and adjust this to see what can be done.
I will also look into the evals not showing up, I believe they are probably still running as the application is a bit juicy, I will add some waiting logic to visual show that the engine is still running. It should be a little snappy in terms of feedback, but will investigate it.
Thank you for the feedback.
