Maritime Chess Club
We play FUN Rapid tournament throughout the week (ENTRY IS FREE) at 8PM Atlantic time. Lately, I've been giving out two prizes for each tournament. One for the winner and one for the Class prize winner (a minimum of 100 games is required to win the class prize). These prizes are 5 club credits. You have to self identify to me, including your location, before the end of the tournament, in order to collect a prize, and if you are not a paid up member the credit will go to pay a portion of your membership fee. Maximum of 3 credits per week per player from the Fun tournaments.
These credits can be used (as cash $$) to purchase a club membership or to pay the entry fee for a CFC Rapid tournament which we have six times per year, or to purchase a CFC membership or single CFC Tournament fee. If you prefer, you cash in your credits when you hit 40, for $20 CAD.
Every 3rd Tuesday at 8pm Atlantic we hold a Cash Blitz (ENTRY IS FREE), with a $20 Cash Prize to the winner and 3 other $10 prizes (TBA). Only players who have a MCC Rating are eligible for a prize. In order to win a cash prize you must have participated in a previous MCC tournament and have either a Blitz or Rapid rating here.
Effective immediately, potential prize winners MAY be requested to provide proof of identity (via a passport, driver's license, or some other official id with picture) matching the name they gave me earlier, in order to claim their prize. This will be especially so for FOREIGN players without FIDE id's or FIDE ratings significantly lower than their online ratings. Please take no offence, if you are asked. This is just an additional measure to make our tournaments fair for everyone. This proof of identity is to be e-mailed to me at fredmckim@gmail.com
There is an entry fee for the CFC Rapid Tournaments. They are typically held on a Monday night at 8pm Atlantic. It is $10 for the Open and $5 for the Amateur section. There is a late fee of $5 for anyone paying after the previous Friday. Credits can be used to pay your entry fees. YOU MUST BE a MEMBER OF BOTH THE CLUB and the CFC at the beginning of the tournament in order to participate. About 75% of the entry fees go back as prizes, with the remainder covering administrative costs (ie Rating fees and advertizing). The main purpose of these events is to provide opportunities for players to participate in CFC tournaments, so they may not be as much interest to foreign players. First place in the Open is typically $50 CAD.
If you would like to join the club, but are from another part of Canada or outside Canada. Tell me about yourself when you sign up. There is a membership fee of $10 for 18 months, but you're welcome to try our fun tournaments as a guest.
One of the unique features of this club is that we have our own Rapid and Blitz ratings, which in my opinion are closer to "real" playing strength than the LiChess ratings.

You will only get a Blitz or Rapid rating from the club after you self identify to me, including location and FIDE id (if you have one).
