It's not that ridiculous, the reason is clear. The rerouting of the knight was to find a way to threaten and get control over the promotion square. Once the knight got to a7, it was protecting b8 so the pawn could freely promote without any worries.
But you are right, it isn't easy.

@traveller2 No I would not. There is no way you found Nd8-e6 in less than a minute.
it is both easy and hard. all the moves are basically forced white has no other good moves.
