A bughouse variant

Bughouse is fun and its popular

There are a lot of variants in lichens but i think its would be a lot funner if there were tournaments for bughouse. For me its annoying because I have to go on chess.com but that's not what i would like because lichens is better.

It's fun and popular, but unlikely to be added here. There are no plans to add any new variants, plus bughouse is quite different since it's a 4-player game, so requiring quite a bit of changes to the whole site.

I know but if enough people want it to be added then it might be.

Honestly it's easier said than done. I'm not a big coder or anything but the amount of stuff you'd need to make a 2 player game into a 4 player game is large. Lichess is a non-profit orginization run ENTIRELY on donations. They have better things to allocate funds and resources to than Bughouse.
We already have Crazyhouse, which is essentially 2 player Bughouse (Or Bughouse is 4 player Crazyhouse, however you prefer to look at it.)
If you really want, you can play it on chess(.)com
But if it weren't too much code, I would also love it on lichess. Too bad it is.

It's not all about the difficulty. I'm sure devs can do it without any issues. The problem is that it would add quite a bit of more code and this code would need to be maintained for a long period of time. Given that the variants are quite niche, like under 2% of regular games, it just seems like an unreasonable burden to carry.

Concerning variants. This should have been settled a long time ago. Now it seems like it's at a indefinite stand still for something that was not done a very long time ago. It's a pity S-Chess didn't get the go-ahead back in 2017; might have really taken off. The butterfly effect in action. We don't know how popular S-Chess would have been if it had been added back in 2017, it's purely speculative.

Lichess considered adding this variant back in 2017.

Seirawan Chess is a popular "niche" variant endorsed by Yasser Seirawan himself. Read in the link.
