Started using Lichess as training account to improve for OTB. I much prefer it to chess.com but the only feature I miss from chess.com is the ‘Real 3D’ option for the board and pieces. Not sure how much effort it would be to replicate something like this:

Thank you. Yes I have tried this but I still find the appearance a bit too dissimilar compared to OTB. Chess.com’s version seems to have nailed it

3D pieces on a 2D board, and without perspective or foreshortening makes the Lichess implementation unrealistic. In my view, it is counterproductive and terrible. I haven't tried chess.com's implementation, but the example above looks pretty good.

Let me try to add some perspective... sorry, couldn't help myself. So, I've tried to CSS the board a little, with perspective and transform properties, and it looks very close to what you want, but the code of chessground doesn't really like it. My guess is that it's possible, but it would take someone a week or two of dedicated work to make chessground do 3D.
I am not that guy. My graphical expertise is negative. But perhaps if you raise a well documented issue on GitHub, you have a lot more chances to see it happen.

Also, @slowking_94, maybe you could try an electronic board, like Chessnut which would really help you train for OTB because it would be OTB.

I also don't like that the pieces are not clickable (the square is). The top of each piece extends above its square. When I click where I would normally grab the OTB figurine, I select the wrong square.

Thanks @TotalNoob69, I appreciate your input. Perhaps I will do what you suggest at some point - unfortunately I would have no clue how to do it myself!
I bought a ChessUp board a while back but find it often just exacerbates my time trouble issues having to move my opponent’s pieces! I might persist with it in the meantime.

It's a matter of practice, I guess. I played most of my lichess games in last 2 years with an e-board, the rest with a regular physical board, and I would probably have a problem if I had to play only on the screen. But I don't play anything slower than 15+10.
