Last time, seeing Gukesh' and Ding Liren's form half a year before their match, most expected it to be a slaughter. The reality was quite different. Now it's still (probably) a year and a half...

It is funny how two of his team for the Ding match (Keymer, Duda) are higher than Gukesh in the live rating. Wonder how often that's happened in the past.

He's been at the top of the rankings more than anybody aside from Magnus. Plus he's universally liked.
