Hi I am Bindi Cheng, the 2006 Canadian Junior Champion and IM since 2011. I also achieved 2650 performance in a 9 round swiss in the 2013 DC International.
I'm a self taught player so I tend to form my own ideas on the most practical way to improve.
I have taught for over 10 years including numerous provincial and national champions and a Canadian GM.
About me
Playing experience
I have been playing tournaments from 2005-2017 and recently started back up again. I have played players like Kamsky, Smirin, Moiseenko, Laznicka, Kaidanov and others. I got my 3 IM norms in 2007, 2009 and 2011 in Canadian Open, World Open and another Canadian Open respectively. I've competed against some of the best in North America for over a decade and continue to play currently.
Teaching experience
I have been teaching for over 20 years and produced many provincial champions. I teach at all levels and have been successful at turning beginners into competent chess players who can hold their own. I have taught many players who are now titled players including 1 GM and a multitude of masters. I work well with kids and adults and strive to help them be the best player they can be.
Other experiences
Best skills
I like to play positionally at first but always ready to complicate things if the need arises. I tend to analyze very deeply in the openings and like teaching through lots of game analysis.
Teaching methodology
I prepare by going over recent top level or big tournament games to highlight an example of how good players think and play. I'm usually a few minutes early and I tend to go over time if we're in the middle of a game or analyzing a game very deep. I'm usually on lichess doing something so if you send me a message I'll definitely see it and I usually reply within 24 hours
I like going over my students games whether in blitz or otb to see which areas they need improving and depending on the student may incorporate study plans.
