About me
My name is Jesper Thybo, and I am a Danish chess grandmaster (as well as a political scientist and economist). I became a GM at the age of 21. Since then I have found a passion for teaching chess, and now I have more than 8 years of coaching experience. Try a free taster of my coaching through my YouTube channel, Simple Chess Openings. As can be seen in the name of the channel, I truly love chess openings. I teach players at all levels. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you :)
FIDE: 2578, Peak elo: 2604
Playing experience
Danish Champion 2025. European Champion for U-18 (2017). GM (2020). Played 7 times for the Danish national team. I am a member of St. Pauli Chess club, where I play alongside players like Magnus Carlsen, Peter Heine Nielsen, David Howell, Jonas Bjerre and Mads Andersen.
Teaching experience
I have taught more than 100 different students between the ages of 5 and 60. I have been teaching for more than 8 years.
Best skills
I am a strategic player, which is an area that is severely underprioritized among chess players in general. I have tailored my teaching to make sure that my students can excel in positional decision making. Additionally, I focus on interactive training, which involves creating an individual training plan. My main goal is to ensure improvement and make the student manage time wisely.
Teaching methodology
We will be studying individual games of the student as well as model games by Grandmasters. I have made easily accessible material to speed up the process of learning openings. Between lessons, I delegate exercises to the student. I recommend training once per week, but I am flexible.
