Swindles 2
Dirty tricks. This article covers the dirtiest tricks of them all. They all turned out exactly how I planned, but I am still almost embarrassed about some of these and I hope I can be forgiven. Perhaps I should have resigned before even reaching the positions in this article - but then I wouldn't have been able to make you laugh with this post.
They anticipated a different pre-move
Here, they forked my king and bishop. I figured they might pre-move the bishop capture, so I blocked the check with the bishop instead of moving my king. It's a frankly ridiculous way of dealing with the check, but it worked.
On the plus side for my opponent, in this case it only turned a loss into a draw for me. The rest of the examples are full-point turnarounds.
They anticipated a different pre-move 2
After axb4, surely I'll recapture that pawn, so they can just premove on the other side of the board, right?
The series of queen checks
You might notice I have one fewer queen here. I was exasperated by this point in this game. I'd outplayed my opponent but was unable to convert a winning attack (seriously - play through the moves up to this point and you'll see what I mean). I'd now been minorly swindled myself and was down a queen. So, I gave a series of last-gasp checks quickly in a row, and hoped they didn't notice that the last one is just a free queen. Boom!
The series of queen checks 2
Another version of the previous technique. This one was nastier because the opponent simply outplayed me all game and definitely deserved the win. I'm so sorry.
