How to report a bug
The simple steps for getting bugs fixedDid you find a bug? We want to fix it! But we need your help to understand it and reproduce it.
The recipe for success
Provide all the necessary information upfront. If you don't, we'll have to ask you the same questions anyway, and the back and forth will delay the fix.
1. The exact URL of the page where you saw the bug
If the bug happened on the website, copy the URL from your browser's address bar and paste it in the bug report.
❌ Not: "on a game page" or "when updating my blog",
✅ But: https://lichess.org/OeglBDaz/white or https://lichess.org/ublog/q3nOzv4n/edit
On the mobile app, let us know which resource exactly is concerned - which game, or study, or tournament...
2. Steps to reproduce the bug
To fix a bug, we first need to make it happen ourselves. Help us with that.
Provide precise step by step instructions to make the bug happen.
❌ Not: "Create a game"
✅ But: Go to the homepage, click on "Challenge a friend", select the Standard variant, Correspondence time control, Casual mode, and click the button at the bottom.
3. What you expected to happen
Describe what you were trying to do, and what you expected to happen when following the steps above.
❌ Not: I wanted to play
✅ But: I wanted to send a correspondence challenge to someone who doesn't have an account. I expected to get a link to share with them so they can join the game.
4. What actually happened
Describe what happened, and how it differs from what you expected.
❌ Not: it didn't work
✅ But: When clicking "challenge a friend" in the "Game setup" popup, I see a loading spinner that never goes away. No link to share.
5. Informations about your device and browser
- Operating system and its version (e.g. Windows 10, macOS 12.3, Android 11, iOS 15.4)
- Browser and its version (e.g. Firefox 128, Safari 14)
6. Screenshots or videos
If the bug is visual, a screenshot can be very helpful to understand the problem.
