World Chess Calendar v2.0

ChessOver the boardSoftware DevelopmentTournament
What has changed over the last half a year? Well... everything!

Hello everyone! It's been a long time since I last announced World Chess Calendar versions on lichess but here I am

In this article I'll tell you about the latest changes we've made to address users' problems and how we've changed the rendering approach to improve our Search Engine presence

Link for the impatient ones: www.worldchesscalendar.com

New Main Screen

First of all, we changed the main screen to simply list all the countries as images. We noticed that in the older version, users were sometimes troubled finding where to click to see the actual tournaments, so we made it as simple as possible

You've seen it in the thumbnail but here is the full image:

Just the countries, sorted by the amount of tournaments we have for each of them. Even a child could use that, so it really has improved the User Experience and thus the conversion of people who get to the tournaments

The next screen didn't have a lot of changes. When you click a country you see something like this:

This is how Indian tournaments look like right now. A lot of tournaments are played daily in India so it makes sense we've finally added it to World Chess Calendar

Tournament Page

The next page is a completely new feature though. When you click on a tournament, you see our own page with a full info on it

Notice that 'Where to register' Field now has all the places that we know of, where you can find this event. Previously we would list them as a separate tournaments, but now we can successfully merge them into one entity. If the name matches, of course

Sometimes you can even find the initial organizer's webpage in there:

War on SEO

The main problem we had was that users couldn't actually find us themselves while using Google Search, for example. With the addition of the 'tournament page' and transitioning our website to the Server-Side rendering, Google and other search engines know what tournaments we have

People actually search for particular tournaments a lot! With all of that we now have hundreds of users and we continue to work on the page to improve their experience even more

Conclusion

That's it for today, it's been a while since the last update here, and we've done a lot of work since then, so I want to thank everyone who supported us and please let us know if you have any feedback. That is very important for us!

I'll post the link once more for those who've missed it at the top: www.worldchesscalendar.com

Till the next time,
Jan
