Morocco Lost a Chess Pilar
This morning, the Moroccan chess community was struck with the shocking news of the passing of Samir Benaino.Samir Benaino, born in 1965 in Tetouan, Morocco, was one of the country’s elite chess players. He began his chess journey at an early age quickly becomng among the best in Morocco. Samir represented Morocco in several international events, notably the 28th Chess Olympiad in 1988 and the Arab Chess Championship in Baghdad in 1998. Locally, he played at the highest level, reaching a peak ELO rating of over 2255.
After a long battle with a serious illness, Samir passed away leaving behind a legacy to remember.
As a community, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. Samir will be always remembered.
