Chess Improvement Journey | Week 4

ChessOver the boardTournamentOff topic
Ever wondered what you'd do without any obligations at all? Well I'm finding out right now

This week has been kind of crazy. I'm basically done with school, I only have a ceremony and some voluntary obligations (e.g. Tutoring) left. My 3-hour training experiment is going okay, I've skipped Friday outright and stopped after 30 minutes on Wednesday because I was just not seeing any tactic at all but everything else worked out as planned, although I ought to do some changes:

Updating my training routine

First of all, there is no need to trade my training for the chess club at the moment, as I have so much spare time that it shouldn't be a problem. From now on I'll also train when I'll go to the chess club. Secondly, the training has to be one of the first things I do when I wake up, especially on days when I have other obligations. My training tends to have a higher quality when done in the morning or noon rather than after those times. I need some routines to stick to in general right now, so this also helps outside of chess aswell.

My weekly games

This week I managed to play both of my games. I'm hoping this will be a constant from now on. As of writing this I sadly still haven't analyzed them (the games have been played on saturday and sunday, so the analysis is going to be done at monday and will probably extend into the tuesday), so you'll have to live with just the barren games for now, but I'll publish commented versions next week, I promise :)

This is the Open Dojo Classical game against an opponent with a FIDE rating of around 1950 and the second seed of the open, so I should be pretty happy with the result.

I feel like I was in control for most of the game although I probably missplayed my advantagious position somwhere.

I was less fortunate in my second game and was caught with an opening varation which was completely unknown to me:

I feel like I was on the back foot for a majority of the game and simply got lucky at the end, especially as my opponent pulled a Nepomniatchi and had 34 minutes on the clock 16 moves into the game (in 30+30). I was scrambling for time at the end while my opponent still had 24 minutes.

What else have I been doing

My tactical problems have seemingly improved drastically this week, so upping the quantity seems to actually have solved my issues for the most part, so I'll continue prioritizing tactics. Besides that there isn't really anything to report on. The grind continues, see you next Sunday :)
