Hi everyone! Today, after seeing a forum thread about the differences between OTB and online chess, I decided to make a blog post comparing the two.
Online chess is very common today. Most chess playing happens on platforms such as Lichess. But nobody should forget OTB chess. Here’s why:
1. Playing on an actual, material board is just a great experience. And seeing the opponent is cool. Then chess becomes a bit like poker, where sometimes you find yourself trying to anticipate what will happen next by the opponent’s face, by their body language.
2. Far less opportunity for cheating. It’s not like a cheater could sit in front of the board and use a chess engine without you knowing it.
3. It’s just a great thing, talking to the opponent, socializing with them and other chess players in person.
So in conclusion, I wanted to say that online chess is great, but you shouldn’t content yourself with just that. Go find your local chess club, or if that’s not available, just go out onto the closest bench with a chess board and someone will be sure to ask you for a game!
